Master and Mrs. Wheeler's Trip to the Atlanta Braves
Game |
|
Mrs. Wheeler turned 80
years young on Monday September 22, 2003. Mrs Wheeler is a big Braves fan so
as part of her birthday celebration Master Wheeler and I arranged to take
her to the Braves game on Sunday 21st. I got tickets to my company's
corporate suite at Turner Stadium and we went to the game.
Mr. & Mrs Wheeler had a great time! I took Master Wheeler's picture in front
of Warren Spahn's statue. Warren Spahn is a Hall of Famer from the Braves
organization and the winningest left handed pitcher of all time wining 363
games. For those of you who don't already know Master Wheeler played
baseball with Warren Spahn while they were both in the army during WW2.
After the war in Europe was over the army kept troops there in preparation
for the invasion of Japan. The needed something for them to do, so they
started a baseball league. It was in that Army league that Warren Spahn and
Master Wheeler played baseball together. Master Wheeler was a catcher and
actually played semi pro ball.
I turned out to be a special day because Greg Maddux was pitching for the
Braves and Mr. & Mrs. Wheeler got to be a part of baseball history. Greg
Maddux set a major league record for winning 15 games or more every season
for 16 seasons in a row! The Braves won the game against the Florida Marlins
8 to 0.
What a treat it was for me to spend a day with Mr. & Mrs. Wheeler together.
They are both very special people who have done so much for all of us who
know and love them.
