Sensei Daniel Asaka Holloway

Chief Instructor and Founder of Holloway’s Isshin Ryu Karate Club, Keego Harbor, MI.  Established 1981.

 

Daniel A. Holloway was born in Japan on October, 1952.  His father was an American serviceman stationed in Japan and His mother was native to the country.

 

Sensei Holloway began his martial arts training at the age of 15 under Mr. Norbert Donnelly.  Sensei Donnelly was a highly rated tournament and early kick boxing champion.  Sensei Holloway’s black belt was confirmed under the direction of Mr. Louis Grinnell and he went on to receive the rank of 6th Dan under Mr. Alan Wheeler.  In 1997 he was given the rank of 7th Dan by Sensei Harold Mitchum (9th Dan – Hanchi), also confirming was Sensei Sherman Harrill (7th  Dan).  Both of these men were Okinawan trained by Master Shimabuku with Mr. Mitchum receiving the distinction of leading Dojo instructor and highest-ranking American.  Sherman Harrill is a leading seminar instructor and holds the rank of 5th Dan in weapons (Kobudo).  Sensei Holloway gives credit to these many fine men in his direction. 

 

Sensei Holloway is also the winner of many awards himself.  He was the OKU Kumite champion in 1987 (executive division).  He is a recipient of the Master Shimabuku award.  He has also been recognized for his community involvement and was given the “Outstanding Young Men of America Award”.   He travels frequently to Japan for business.  He also enjoys guitar playing, flying airplanes, and practicing Shiatsu.
